There are some special characteristics of tattoo artists that you should look for when deciding on who you want to use to get your tattoo. Of course, every tattoo should be well thought-out and never purchased on a whim. If you do, your options for a tattoo artist are greatly narrowed.

When looking for an artist, look for this:
Open-minded: You should never use an artist that criticizes your design, or makes you feel like your design is “stupid”. Your designer should be open-minded and willing to accept your design exactly the way you want it
Patient: You should choose an artist who’s willing to change your design, if needed. Your artist should never rush you into a design if you’re unsure.
Creative: Your artist should be able to give you input into what colors and lines if you’re unsure.
Willing to change design if needed: Your artist should be willing to come back later and “touch up” your tattoo, often for free. Your artist should be open to re-scheduling appointments if you don’t like the design they draft for you
Moderately priced: Never choose a tattoo artist for because they are “cheap. Your tattoo is a lifetime commitment. Always choose a tattoo artist who explains why things cost something, and never choose an artist who’s trying to give you a discount. He or she may do discount work because they are bad at being a tattoo artist!
Overall, you should get to know your artist ahead of time. Follow your gut and never choose an artist because they’re pushing you into a certain design.
Happy tattoo’ing!
